About us

With engaging play spaces, flexible options and friendly teachers, University Kids Wellington is a safe and stimulating environment for your children.

We have two early childhood centres at either end of our Kelburn campus, offering a range of different session times and fees to suit the needs of your whānau (family). Visit Fairlie Terrace Centre and Clermont Terrace Centre for more information.

Competitive fees and flexibility

We’re not for profit, which means all money received is reinvested in our centres. We offer competitive fees for parents of all situations and a range of enrolment options to meet the needs of our families.

Convenient locations

Located at either end of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Kelburn campus, our centres are close to the central business district and the cable car, making us a convenient option for many parents.

Whakamana / Empowerment

We empower children to grow as interactive learners, engaging in and exploring the wider world around them.

We help our tamariki (children) build strong relationships with the community and enhance their learning with regular excursions—we have our own van, so you’ll often find us at places like the University library, Wellington Botanic Garden, Zealandia, or Petone beach.

Kotahitanga / Holistic development

Our curriculum reflects the holistic way that children learn, acknowledging them as unique, free-spirited individuals, who are competent and capable, with a rich cultural identity.

We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our bi-cultural programme, by adhering to certain tikanga (Māori cultural guidelines) in our centres, and integrating te reo Māori (Māori language) into our everyday conversations and activities.

Whānau Tangata / Family and community

We acknowledge that the wider world of family, whānau and community is an integral part of our curriculum, and we encourage active participation from all three.

Visitors are always welcome and our teachers are ready to answer all your questions. Arrange a visit to stay and play a while, and judge for yourself the high-quality service we offer.

Kaiako / Teachers

Paint Time – A young boy in a children’s activity room, stands at a short desk with trays of yellow, green and blue paint. He holds a paint roller of blue paint and creates a masterpiece on white paper, all the while, looking quite pleased with his work.

We have qualified Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers (80%), teachers in training, and teacher aides—who are all passionate about helping tamariki learn and grow in a nurturing and playful environment.

Nga Hononga / Relationships

We believe children learn through responsive relationships with people, places and things—so we support our tamariki to develop meaningful relationships.

Kaiarahi / Leader

Providing quality early childhood education for more than 40 years, generations of children have flourished in our care. Our specialist manager oversees our centres, giving you the confidence that you’ve made the best decision for your child's care and education.
