How to apply

Apply for the Wellington Global Exchange student programme in a few easy steps.

Follow the steps below to get ready to apply for exchange.

1. Attend an information session

Information sessions are held every Thursday during term time in Trimesters 1 and 2 at 12.50pm on level 2 of the Easterfield Building, Kelburn campus. There is also a monthly session held at 12.50pm at Te Aro campus (VS101) on the first Friday of each month. During this session, you can consult with a Wellington Global Exchange coordinator and have your questions answered.

2. Meet with your Student Success Adviser

Meet with your Student Success Adviser to arrange for a degree audit and to make sure that you meet the eligibility requirements for both Wellington Global Exchange and your degree/major. You may review your Faculty exchange requirements via the links below:

3. Research possible exchange universities

Victoria University of Wellington has student exchange agreements with over 140 partner universities across 35 countries.

When looking at possible destinations, consider the course offerings, location, cost of living, language and cultural differences of the host university and country—most of this information can be found on the host university's website, and check out our student reviews.

Select three universities

When submitting your application you must select three universities and be prepared to go to any one of your choices as availability is often limited.

If applying for exchange to the University of California, you must also select three campuses. Campus placement will be at their discretion.

4. Apply through Pūaha

To submit your online application, you need to:

  • Start your exchange application through Pūaha (Services & FAQ > Manage your studies > Apply for Outbound Exchange)
  • Provide a letter of recommendation (if your GPA sits beneath a B-).
