Karen Smith

Professor Karen Smith, Associate Dean Teaching and Learning at Victoria Business School, was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to education and volunteering. Professor Smith has both an academic and a personal interest in volunteering and is the former Chairperson of Volunteering New Zealand.

Dr Christian Schott

A project applying the concept of Virtual Situated Experiential Education to support New Zealand secondary school students learning about Latin America, for which Dr Christian Schott is the Principle Investigator, has been awarded a $178,000 grant by the Centre for Asia Pacific Excellence - Latin America.

The project will tell look to tell the story of the town of Aguas Calientes and its community at the foothills of the world famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu through virtual reality and conduct research on the impact of the VR learning tool on New Zealand school students.

Professor of Public Management Evan Berman

Professor Evan Berman, from the School of Government, is to be awarded the H. George Frederickson PA Times Best Article Award at the 2019 annual conference of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). The award is in recognition of Professor Berman's article 'Rethinking Democracy: Reforming Appointee-Executive Relations' published in the Spring 2018 edition of the PA Times, ASPA's quarterly magazine.
