Victoria Business School releases second PRME report
PRME is a United Nations supported initiative that aims to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world and to equip business students with the understanding and ability to deliver change.
Victoria University of Wellington become a signatory to PRME in 2014 and was the first to pledge a commitment to PRME's Sustainable Development Goals in 2017.
“Victoria Business School is second to none in its commitment to the Principles and all it stands for,” says Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Commerce Professor Ian Williamson.
“Since our first report in 2016, our activities around the Principles and the United Nation’s 17 associated Sustainable Development Goals have grown significantly and become ever more embedded within our research, teaching, and external engagement.”
The report highlights the various initiatives Victoria Business School has undertaken in its commitment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Some of these initiatives include research on reducing the environmental impact of industrial farming, supporting a new bilingual Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management in Vanuatu, and the creation of a tool that lets students take a virtual field trip—cutting the carbon output that would come from an in-person trip.
“Our research and teaching endeavour to enhance the social and environmental, as well as economic, wellbeing of the world around us for both today’s and tomorrow’s generations,” says Professor Williamson. “In doing this, PRME is fundamental.”
