Green Campus Day celebrates sustainability

In conjunction with Australian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS), ‘Green Campus Day’ helps campuses celebrate sustainable buildings around New Zealand and Australia.

Green Campus Tour participants pose together in the Hub – one holds a sing that reads “Green Campus Day”.

The ‘World Green Building Week’ annual event, held on Tuesday 25 September, saw staff and students taking part in a tour of the sustainable features of the Kelburn campus.

The walking tour exhibited what the University has done to reduce carbon emissions by 15%, improve biodiversity, and reduce waste. Guided by Andrew Wilks, Director – Sustainability, and Nick Baty, Technical Director at Beca, participants were treated to a two hour tour of seldom seen parts of the University, from solar panels to rain water harvesting tanks.
