Victoria Totoweka Scholarships - (School Leaver Scholarships For Equity and Support)



Tenure of award:

The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 in the first year of study and may be credited to Victoria Halls of Residence costs or paid as a stipend (paid in 9 equal instalments from March-November).

History or background of award

The Victoria Totoweka Scholarship (“the Scholarship”) recognises Victoria’s committment to equity issues in supporting students to have access to education. We encourage strong academic applicants who are Māori; Pasifika; from refugee-backgrounds; have a disability; or come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In supporting these students Victoria recognises them as New Zealand’s scholars of the future. 

Purpose of award

Scholarships for study in 2019 will be awarded competitively on the basis of academic merit, equity, leadership, and commitment to community. Scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 for the first year of study which can be put towards accommodation costs at a Victoria hall of residence, or (for students not in a hall) as a stipend to contribute towards your first year living costs.

Selection criteria

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents of at least two years’ standing. 
Applicants must be in Year 13 or have already completed Year 13 in the year prior to be eligible to apply for this
Applicants who have taken a (single) gap year after completing Year 13 may apply for the Scholarship. They must apply in the year prior to starting study at Victoria.

How do students apply?

Students are to apply for a Victoria School Leaver Scholarship, succesful applicants will then be awarded one of three different scholarships based on their application data. 

A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30pm on 15 September 2018 for study in 2019. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation must also be received by 4:30pm on 15 September 2018 in order for the application to be considered.

Additional information

Exceptional applicants will also be considered for the Victoria Kahotea Scholarships which includes full accommodation costs at a Victoria Hall of Residence plus a stipend for three years conditional on students continuing to be enrolled full-time and maintaining a Grade Point Average of 6 (a B+ average).

How and when do students learn of the decision?

Applicants will be notified after the application deadline (15 September 2018) whether they have been awarded the Scholarship.
