Fruit and vegetable co-operative

Join our fruit and vegetable co-op and enjoy fresh and affordable produce delivered to your campus each week.

Victoria University's fruit and vegetable co-op launched in March 2017 and is a non-profit social enterprise supported by Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association, Wesley Community Action and Wellington Regional Public Health. The co-op—available for staff and students—makes use of bulk buying power and volunteer labour to package bags of fresh fruit and vegetables, and is a great way to bring healthy food into our community.

What you get

For $12 (paid one week in advance) you will receive one bag of fruit and one of vegetables, comprising of 6-8 varieties. These bags of fresh, seasonal food represent great value. You can order as many bags as you need, as often as you like.

How to order

It is a pre-order-and-pay system, order by 5pm Thursday and pick-up the following Thursday.

You can collect your fruit and vegetables from one of these three hubs:

  • Kelburn campus: The Hunter Lounge, Level 3, Student Union Building (11am–12.30pm)
  • Pipitea campus: Mezzanine Floor, Rutherford House. (10.30am–11.30am)
  • Te Aro campus: Outside the Architecture and Design Library's main entrance, Level 1 (11am-11.30am)

The co-op model is a partnership: student and staff volunteers pack and distribute your order and you pay and pick-up your orders at the arranged times. Unfortunately, because the produce is perishable, if you do not collect your bags or arrange for someone else to collect them, the University is unable to store them. Orders are bought in advance so no refunds are available.

The Co-op is looking at ways to reduce the number of biodegradable bags we use.  When you collect your order you are welcome to transfer your fruit and vegetables into your own reusable bags.

If you would like further information about the co-op, contact the fruit and vege coop coordinator.

Volunteer with the co-op

We’re looking for a team of students and staff to volunteer time and energy to promote healthy eating, and to support the successful running of the co-op.

Your role will include volunteering at either a packing hub or a distribution hub. You will be able to show off your coordinating and distribution skills, promote health and wellbeing, earn Victoria Plus and Victoria International Leadership Programme points and participate in an initiative that will provide you with amazing work experience and look great on your CV.

If you are keen to make a difference and promote health and wellbeing at Victoria University email fruit-vegecoop@vuw.ac.nz to learn where and how you can help.
