Student Learning

Student Learning offers a large variety of programmes ranging from one to one appointments to group seminars.

Services for students

Appointments

Students can have one-to-one tuition with a Learning Adviser or Peer Writer at Student Learning to discuss their assignments or learning. This tuition is confidential. These appointments are free to Victoria students and available all year when the university is open. Appointments are 50 minutes long. Please go to one-to-one Appointments for details of this service.

Express appointments

Need a quick answer to a study question? A learning adviser at the Student Learning library help desk may be able to help. Our help desk is situated on Level 2, Rankin Brown Building, and is available 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday during term time.

Starting in trimester 1 2018, we will also have a Student Learning library help desk in the Te Aro campus Library, every Wednesday 11am-1pm.

Orientation programmes

Student Learning is actively involved in first year orientation and contributes to programmes such as Halls Headstart and NewStart. We also offer two orientation programmes of our own for students to learn or refresh study skills.

  • SmartStart - a half-day programme that offers an opportunity to learn about academic study before lectures start

  • Uniprep - an introductory skills programme designed to help you get maximum benefit from your study before trimester begins
