Dr Olenda E. Johnson is a professor at the US Naval War College in the College of Operational and Strategic Leadership located in Rhode Island, where she works to advance leader and ethics development for the United States Navy.

In February Dr Johnson arrived at Victoria Business School (VBS) as an in-residence visiting scholar. During her residence she furthered her research in areas such as leader development and cognitive readiness, and participated in a number of engagements where she shared her expertise with University staff, students and those in State services.

She also gave a public lecture, met with students and members of the New Zealand Defence Force, and was an invited speaker with the New Zealand Police Executive Leadership Board and its Women's Advisory Network.

New Zealand Police National Manager, Assurance Group Mike Webb said: "The session with the Police Executive was particularly well received, with Dr Johnson sharing her observations on links between a strong ethical culture and the values of integrity and professionalism, including practical steps senior leaders can take to position ethics amongst the broader responsibilities of leadership."

She also assisted Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Commerce Professor Ian Williamson in facilitating a day-long strategy session with VBS faculty management staff.

Professor Williamson said it is a "fantastic opportunity for the Business School to develop a formal connection with Dr Johnson".

"Dr Johnson is a highly recognised thought leader on how organisations can thrive during periods of radical disruption. In her role as Adjunct Professor, Dr Johnson will continue to build collaborations with our faculty potentially leading to new research on leadership that can inform the development of leaders across the corporate, government, civil society and military sectors.

"Her appointment further extends Victoria Business School’s ability to tap into leading insight from around the world."
