Lego Serious Play is a 3D visualisation tool for applied facilitation of complex ideas where participants can model thoughts, concepts, and interconnections between ideas in physical Lego models.  Designed by Lego in the mid 1990s as a solution to bring creativity back to managerial processes, the protocol has been adapted from industry to academia for use in classroom and research environments.

By applying the three dimensional modelling, participants create boundary objects for use in explaining their thoughts, and these objects can be merged, built and rebuilt as shared objects indicative of shared understandings.  By following a set of guiding principles governing meaning making, ownership of ideas, and psychic safety, the LSP process creates an environment of open sharing to bring the voice of all participants in the room into focus.

This workshop will overview both research applications of the LSP process as a qualitative toolkit for engaging deep insight from participants, and as a mechanism for student interactive engagement in the classroom.  Participants are invited to bring an open mind and empty hand, as this will be a hands-on, minds-on workshop of both case examples, and guided Lego model making.
