Spanish and Latin American Studies Programme Presents at International Conference

AILASA Conference

In early July, the XII biennial Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia (AILASA) Conference was held at Massey University’s Albany campus.

Four academics and a PhD candidate from the Spanish and Latin American Studies Programme at Victoria University gave papers at this conference: (pictured above from left to right) Dr Ross Woods, Dr Andrea Hepworth, Professor Sarah Leggott, Dr Nicola Gilmour and Jon Preston.

The conference theme was ‘Transforming Legacies’. This allowed the members of the Spanish and Latin American Studies Programme to showcase the wide range of topics encompassed in their research: contemporary Spanish poetry; memory activism in Spain and Argentina; recent Spanish women’s fiction; the transformation of Spain’s Islamic past; and urban Mapuche (indigenous) poetry in Chile.

Their papers were well received by colleagues from universities in New Zealand, Australia and further afield, and contributed to the overall success of the conference.

¡Felicitaciones! Congratulations!
