Recognition of excellence in the SLC

Richard Millington, Programme Director for the German Programme, and Rory McKenzie, MA in Literary Translation Studies, have both received accolades for their achievements.

VUWSA Lecturer of the Year runner up

Dr Millington is to be honoured later this month as one of four runners-up for the first VUWSA “Lecturer of the Year” Award.  From the nominations received, it is clear students value the dedication and support that he brings to his teaching.

Richard's a really special lecturer. His lectures are always an unbelievably good and consistent mix of fun and informative, he's always clear and never hesitates to reiterate anything that the class is struggling to pick up on. A few weeks ago he described the German department as having a "homey" feel, and thanks to his efforts, it really does. You can tell Richard really cares about his students and how well they do, and his passion and enthusiasm is truly infectious. It's clear that he thinks of what he does as more than just his job. I can't think of anyone more deserving.

Sovereign Gold Award winner

Rory McKenzie, who is doing his MA in Literary Translation Studies, has been doing some fantastic work to promote translation activities and opportunities at Victoria. In recognition of those efforts, he was awarded the 2016 Sovereign Gold Award, as well as a Gold Award for excellence in a cultural field, at the inaugural VUWSA Gold & Supreme Club Awards.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Rick, and congratulazioni, Rory!
