A Fellowship by the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA) awards the highest level of professional attainment to those making a significant contribution to the advancement of librarianship and/or information management through outstanding leadership, teaching or research.

Dr Philip Calvert has been cited for his "outstanding contribution to the library profession in New Zealand”, as well as his "international influence and impact".

This award highlights his contribution to research-led practice within the library profession in New Zealand, particularly that focused on topics of the effectiveness and quality of New Zealand Libraries and their services, secondary school librarianship, information services to those with impairments, and the impacts of misinformation on scholarly communication.

The citation also commended his work for being practical, readable and usable for library practitioners as well as making a contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the library and information studies discipline.

Dr Calvert has also contributed to the growth of research-led practice via LIANZA’s Research Special Interest Group, promoting the value and development of research by information professionals throughout the library and information services sector in New Zealand.

Commitment to leadership development in the sector was also recognised in the citation, noting that Dr Calvert joined the Emerging Leaders Working Group in 2012 and has been an active participant in the planning and development of the LIANZA Leadership Strategy.

He was a member of the guiding group of Team Kotuku (LIANZA's emerging leaders programme) during its first two years, guiding and mentoring both cohort members and his colleagues on the team.

The award of a LIANZA Fellowship is deserved recognition of a long-standing commitment to sharing his expertise and knowledge, to develop others, and to drive his vision to integrate research and evidence based practice into our information profession.
