The World Wide Web once became public in a proposal subtly titled "Information Management: A Proposal". This is why the School of Information Management is naturally involved in activities that aim to bring the World Wide Web to its full potential. In an opinion piece published in the Dominion Post and on Stuff News, SIM academic Markus Luczak-Roesch argues that the digital platform economy is threatening not only this potential but humanity at large. Businesses, governments and all of society need to adjust the way they treat content on the Web, aim for restoring the original ethos of decentralisation, and promote technologies that put users back in control of their data.
