Research Interests

Climate change adaptation, vulnerability and sustainability, climate policy and governance, emission trading.

Dr. Alex Lo is an environmental social scientist, specializing in the study of public and policy response to climate change. He is a recipient of the:

  • World Social Science Fellowship
  • Endeavour Research Fellowship
  • Universitas 21 Fellowship
  • Pete Hay Prize, Li Ka Shing Prize
  • Dr. Stephen S.F. Hui Prizes, and;
  • the Ada and Arthur Hill Prize.

He was an invited plenary speaker at the International Conference on Regional Development in 2016.  He has been an editorial board member for Environmental Values (UK, ISI-indexed journal) and the Chinese Journal of Urban and Environmental Studies since 2014.

Dr. Lo received his PhD from the Australian National University. He was affiliated with the Griffith Climate Change Response Program at Griffith University, Australia (Lecturer, 2011-2015) and the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong (Assistant Professor, 2015-2019). Prior to these appointments, he held a research position at Vienna, Austria, and coordinated environmental education projects for the Hong Kong Government. Since 2018, he has been a Senior Research Fellow of the Earth System Governance Project (hosted by Utrecht University) and an Adjunct Professor at Guangzhou University, China.
