New FHSS Associate Dean (Academic Programmes) appointed

Senior lecturer in Media Studies Dr Joost de Bruin has been appointed as the next FHSS Associate Dean (Academic Programmes) effective from Monday 2 July. His scholarship includes research on television format adaptation, indigenous language media, and migrant cultures and media.

PVC/Dean Jennifer Windsor says Joost brings a range of previous academic leadership experiences to the role, including as Media Studies Programme Director (2014–2016) and as a member of Faculty Academic Committee (2017). He also has experience and expertise in community collaborations and shared outcomes.

"Joost is a passionate advocate for the expertise of other staff and brings a sense of commitment and engagement to the future of our academic programmes."

Joost says he’s delighted to have been appointed: “I’ve just returned from the Victoria University Information Evenings in Auckland and Whangārei, and at both locations prospective students and their parents and whānau were clearly impressed with the diversity of our offerings in the Humanities and Social Sciences. I look forward to working with people from across the Faculty and developing ideas together. Kia ora mai tātou katoa.”

Jennifer says she is very grateful to Stuart Brock for his work as Associate Dean over the last three years: “He’s approached the role with vision, purpose and a deeply impressive sense of service.”
