Chemistry finalist in Reaxys PhD prize
3rd year PhD student, Ryan Schwamm, has been selected as a finalist in the 2017 Reaxys PhD Prize in Chemistry.
The finalists are composed of students "who have conducted original, innovative research in synthetic chemistry and have demonstrated excellence in methodology and approach" and the award is amongst "the most important and recognized International Prize for young chemists".
Ryan is one of 45 students selected from 550 applicants that were received from over 400 academic institutions worldwide. He will attend the Prize Symposium in Shanghai later this year where he will get an opportunity to present his work alongside young chemists from the USA (Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, Princeton), Germany (Mainz, Berlin), Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto), UK (Cambridge, Imperial College).
Ryan nominated his 2015 publication describing the isolation of the first Bi(II) radical that is stable in the solid-state (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 10630). His paper was judged on various criteria, including originality, importance to the field and quality of published work.
