Description

The scholarship is for students studying the Master of Music Therapy degree at Victoria University of Wellington.

History

The New Zealand Society for Music Therapy (Music Therapy New Zealand) wishes to honour the late Sir Roy McKenzie a long term benefactor to music therapy in New Zealand, by offering scholarships for students studying the Master of Music Therapy degree.

Eligibility

The scholarship is offered to students who have completed the first year of the Master of Music Therapy degree and intend to enrol in the second year of this programme; or sudents who have completed the second year of Master of Music Therapy degree and about to register for PhD studies; or someone who has a close professional association with the Master of Music Therapy course at the New Zealand School of Music and intends to pursue further qualification at New Zealand School of Music. Applicants can be enrolled full-time or part-time. Applicants must also be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

  • Applicants must have completed the first year of the Master of Music Therapy degree and intend to enrol in the second year of this programme; or have completed the second year of Master of Music Therapy degree and is about to register for PhD studies; or someone who has a close professional association with the Master of Music Therapy course and intends to pursue further qualification at New Zealand School of Music
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizen or permanent resident

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation

  • A personal statement outlining briefly the proposed research programme/course to be undertaken, as well as how the scholarship's fund will be utilised
  • A reference from an academic (to be requested via the online application)

Selection process

The successful recipient will be selected by a panel of appropriate New Zealand School of Music staff.

Additional information

The scholarship shall be paid in two equal instalments in April and August upon satisfactory progress reports from the scholar’s supervisor.

Recipients must write a letter of thanks to the donor of this scholarship.

Regulations and conditions

  1. A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
  2. All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  3. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  4. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  5. The selection panel may refrain from making an award in the event of there being no suitable applicants or insufficient funds.
  6. Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
  7. Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  8. At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
