This prize arises from a fund given by Mrs A Danilow in 1983 to commemorate her husband Dr N N Danilow (1896-1981) who founded Russian studies in New Zealand when he introduced a course in Russian at Victoria University College in 1943. Administered via the Victoria University Foundation, the prize is awarded to the best student in Spanish language and literature at undergraduate level.

This prize and the N N Danilow Memorial Scholarship arise from a fund given by Mrs A Danilow in 1983 to commemorate her husband Dr N N Danilow (1896-1981), who founded Russian studies in New Zealand when he introduced a course in Russian at Victoria University College in 1943. It is administered via the Victoria University Foundation.

1. The prize will we awarded to the student who has done the best work in Spanish language and literature at undergraduate level during the year, and is worthy of the award.

2. The N N Danilow Memorial Prize shall be awarded annually by the Academic Board, on the recommendation of the Director of the Spanish Programme of the School of Asian and European Languages and Cultures.

3. The value of the prize in any year shall be determined by the Academic Board after consideration of the income from the fund. The balance of income not expended shall be added to the fund.

4. The prize shall consist of a cash payment to be used for a purpose specified by the Director of the Spanish Programme of the School of Asian and European Languages and Cultures.

5. Recipients will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded appropriately.
