The prize acknowledges academic excellence for a student completing their second year of study majoring in Classics at Victoria University of Wellington.
This award was established in memory of Professor Matthew Trundle.
Matthew first joined Victoria University of Wellington in 1999 as a lecturer in Classics. He was associate dean for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences between 2007 and 2012. Matthew later joined the University of Auckland as chair and professor of classics and ancient history, while continuing to live in Wellington. He was known for his passion for Classics, inspiring many students with his entertaining and educational talks.
The recipient will be chosen by the head of School of Languages and Cultures and programme director of Classics (or their nominees).
The recipient is asked to write a letter of appreciation to the donor within one month of receiving the award.
