Dr Margaret L Bailey Award

$1,000 each year

Historically, only a small fraction of science degrees were awarded to women, but in recent decades women's overall participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields has steadily increased. Today, women earn half of all bachelor's degrees in science. Women's involvement in advanced study and careers in STEM fields continues to grow. However, women are still underrepresented in postgraduate and post-doctoral positions.

Victoria University of Wellington is dedicated to fostering a community of learning that reflects New Zealand's diverse society. Through a generous gift from Dr Margaret L Bailey via the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation, we are delighted to offer this award to a female student wishing to pursue postgraduate study within the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.

Purpose of award

The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a female student who has recently completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in chemistry, wishing to pursue postgraduate study (at honours level) within the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.
