Eligibility

This prize is awarded for the best published news or feature article written by an undergraduate of Victoria University of Wellington who is either a member of the editorial staff of Salient, or a contributor.

Information

This prize arises from a gift in 1968 from R S V Simpson to the Students' Association to mark the 30th year of publication of Salient. "Comment is free but facts are sacred" (C P Scott of the Manchester Guardian).

One prize is offered annually and is awarded to the undergraduate who is either a member of the editorial staff of Salient (or of any Students' Association newspaper which may be published in the place of Salient), or a contributor, who writes the best published news or feature article.

The prize shall be awarded in November of each year for an article published in that year.

If in any year the whole of the income from the fund is not expended the balance may be used in a subsequent year or, if the Students' Association so decides, may be added to the capital fund.

The Editor(s) of Salient (or any Students' Association newspapers which may be published in the place of Salient) shall decide each year's recipient.

Whether or not an award shall be made in any year shall be at the sole discretion of the Editors of Salient (or any Students' Association newspapers which may be published in the place of Salient).

Recipients will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded appropriately.
