This prize arises from a fund raised in recognition of the service given by the Rt Hon. Sir Walter Nash, CH, to the Labour Movement, and donated by him to Victoria University to be used for improving relations between the races of the world.
It is awarded for the best essay on a topical subject, of the candidate's own choice, dealing with peace, conflict resolution or the improvement of relations between the different races, nations and peoples of the world.

Information

This prize arises from a fund raised in recognition of the service given by the Rt Hon. Sir Walter Nash, CH, to the Labour Movement, and donated by him to the University to be used for improving relations between the races of the world.

1. The Sir Walter Nash Prize shall be awarded annually for the best essay on a topical subject of the candidate's own choice, dealing with peace, conflict resolution or the improvement of relations between the different races, nations and peoples of the world.

2. The prize shall be open to any student of the Victoria University of Wellington, but no candidate shall be awarded the prize more than once.

3. The prize shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the School of History, Political Science and International Relations in consultation with the academic staff and Head of Programme in Political Science and International Relations.

4. The value of the prize shall be determined after consideration of the income from the fund. The balance of income not expended shall be added to the fund.

5. The names of students awarded this prize shall be inscribed on the Honours Board at the premises of the Political Science and International Relations Programme.
