This prize arises from a fund subscribed in 1976 by the ex-students and friends of Victoria University of Wellington to commemorate the work of Professor H A Murray in the Chair of Classics 1946-72. The prize is administered by the Victoria University Foundation.
It is awarded to the best student enrolled in a 200 or 300 level course in LATI, GREE or CLAS.

Information

The prize arises from a fund subscribed in 1976 by the ex-students and friends of Victoria University of Wellington to commemorate the work of Professor H A Murray in the Chair of Classics 1946-72. The prize is administered by the Victoria University Foundation.

1. The prize shall be open to any student enrolled for in classes numbered 200-399 in LATI, GREE or CLAS.

2. The prize shall be offered annually and shall be awarded to the student who, on the report of the Chairperson of the Department of Classics, shall be judged by the Academic Board to be the best student in the year of the award, and to be worthy of the award. No student may hold the award more than once.

3. The amount of the prize shall be as determined from time to time by the Vice-Chancellor.

4. If in any year the prize is not awarded, an additional prize may be awarded in a subsequent year or, on the recommendation of the Academic Board, the prize money may be added to the capital fund.

5. The recipient will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded appropriately.
