This prize arises from gifts made by Mrs Winifred Macdonald to commemorate her brother, Dr Gerard Maskell, who was the first lecturer in Zoology and who died in London while on sabbatical leave in 1932 aged 32 years.
It is awarded to the best final year student who has completed their 300-level study in the School of Biological Sciences and who enrols for postgraduate study.

This prize arises from gifts made by Mrs Winifred Macdonald to commemorate her brother, Dr Gerard Maskell, who was the first lecturer in Zoology. and who died in London while on sabbatical leave in 1932 at the age of 32 years.
1. The prize shall be known as the Dr F G Maskell Prize.
2. The prize shall be awarded to the best final year BSc student, who has completed their 300-level study in the School of Biological Sciences, and who enrols for a postgraduate study within the areas covered by the Ecology and Biodiversity teaching and research group.
3. The value of the prize shall be determined by the Academic Board after consideration of the income from the fund, and will be paid in cash.
4. If in any year the prize is not awarded an additional prize may be awarded in a subsequent year, or, on the recommendation of the Academic Board, the prize money may be added to the capital fund.
