The funds for these awards are provided by The English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth (Wellington Branch) via the Victoria University Foundation. They are for graduates of the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies who are following a career in teaching English to speakers of other languages and shall be made annually to those graduates who, in the judgment of the Head of School, have shown the greatest promise as effective and committed teachers of English to speakers of other languages.

Information

The funds for these awards are provided by The English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth (Wellington Branch) via the Victoria University Foundation. The objective of the awards is to support the Union's aim of "Promoting international understanding through the English-speaking language".

1. The awards shall be known as The English-Speaking Union Awards for Teachers of English.

2. The awards shall be made to graduates of the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies who, in the judgment of the Head of School, have shown the greatest promise as effective and committed teachers of English to speakers of other languages. However, for one of the awards preference will be given to candidates from the South Pacific.

3. Candidates may be pursuing a career in teaching English in New Zealand or overseas.

4. They are for graduates of the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies, who are following a career in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

5. The value of each award will be $500 per annum. The awards shall be made annually.

6. The awards shall be used to purchase materials relevant to the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.

7. The recipient will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded to the donor.
