This prize arises from a fund subscribed in 1954 by ex-students and friends of the Victoria University of Wellington to commemorate the work of Professor C A Cotton, Head of the Geology Department and Professor of Geology from 1909-1953.
It is awarded to the best student in any Geology class.

Information

This prize arises from a fund subscribed in 1954 by ex-students and friends of the Victoria University of Wellington to commemorate the work of Professor C A Cotton, Head of the Geology Department and Professor of Geology from 1909-1953.
l. The prize shall be open to any student attending a Geology Class during the year.
2. The prize shall be offered annually and shall be an award to the student judged by the Director of the Geology Programme to be the best student worthy of the prize in the year of the award.
3. The value of the prize in any year shall be determined by the Geology Board of Studies after consideration of the income from the fund and the number of prize winners.
4. Part of the prize money shall be spent on a book, or books.
5. If in any year the whole of the income from the fund is not expended, the balance will be used in a subsequent year or, if the Academic Board so decides, may be added to the capital fund.
6. No student shall be awarded the Cotton Prize more than once.
