This prize was established in 1948 by Sir Harry Batterbee, the first High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand. It is awarded to the best student with First Class or Second Class (First Division) Honours in Greek.

Information

This prize arises from a fund established in 1948 by Sir Harry Batterbee, the first High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand.
1. The prize shall be awarded by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the Chairperson of the Classics Programme to the student most deserving of the distinction who gains First Class or Second Class (First Division) Honours in Greek, either as a single subject or as a half-subject, in the Victoria University of Wellington.
2. The value of the prize shall be determined by the Academic Board after consideration of the income from the fund. The balance of income not expended shall be added to the fund. Part of the prize money shall be spent on a book, or books.
