Information

This Prize was established in 2015, via the University Foundation, through a bequest from Emeritus Professor Gordon Orr, a former Secretary of Justice, Waitangi Tribunal member and Dean of Victoria University of Wellington's Law Faculty.

The Prize encourages and supports Māori students in the Law Faculty at the University who participate in the Māori and Pacific Island (MPI) tutorial programme at the 200 level. Selection will be based on academic merit.

The Prize is awarded to a Māori student who, in the year for which the Prize is awarded, achieves the highest average grade across two of more 200-level law papers (LAWS 211, 212, 213, 214), excluding LAWS 297. Should the structure of the LLB degree change the Dean of the Law Faculty may add or amend the courses to be considered. Part-time students who complete two 200-level papers over two years will also be considered for the Prize.

The Prize may be held in conjunction with other Victoria University of Wellington awards.

Recipients will be asked to write a letter of thanks, which will be forwarded appropriately.
