This Award was established in 2013, via the Victoria University Foundation, through a bequest made by John Drake, in memory of his wife, Therle.

Purpose of award
To assist an outstanding student studying for a BMus in Classical Performance at the New Zealand School of Music.

Selection criteria
The Award shall be given annually to the top performance student auditioning for a BMus in Classical Performance at the New Zealand School of Music, awarded on the basis of musical ability and academic merit.

In any year preference may be given to a student studying a particular instrument or instruments nominated by the Head of School.

Decision makers
Nominations from the audition panels and decided by Classical Performance Programme Leader.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
At the end of the audition process (late November/early December)

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Recipients are required to write a letter of thanks to the representatives of the donor on receipt of the award and to provide an end of year progress report if requested.
