Information

History or background of award
The award was established in 2013 on the initiative of the German Ambassador Dr Anne-Marie Schleich. Its establishment coincided with a series of initiatives taken by the German Embassy to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Purpose of award
The award is intended as an acknowledgment of outstanding academic achievement by undergraduate students of German, as a means of encouraging them to continue their German Studies or to pursue other links with the German-speaking world, and as an expression of the interest of the Federal Republic of Germany in promoting German Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.

Selection criteria
Best academic performance in an undergraduate German course (language or culture).

Number of awards offered
Six, one each for language and culture at 100, 200 and 300-level.

Value
The value of the prize shall be determined by the German Embassy. Typically it will consist in a German-language book or similar.
