Eligibility

This prize was established at the time of the Earth Sciences Centenary in 2009 to honour the work of Paul Vella, a first professor in Paleoecology at Victoria University Wellington. The prize recognises the student with the overall best results in the 200 level ESCI Geology courses and who is judged most likely to continue to achieve excellent results in undergraduate study.

The prize will be awarded to a 2nd year Geology student(s) with the overall best results in the 200 level Geology courses, and who is judged most likely to continue to achieve excellent results in undergraduate study.

Decision makers
The successful recipient shall be selected by the Programme Director of the Geology Board of Studies (or nominee) with the advice of the relevant course coordinators. The prize will be signed off by the Head of School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences and forwarded to the Scholarships Office in the end of year Prize Memo.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Prize may be held in conjunction with other awards.
Additional information
No award shall be made in any year in which the University Scholarships Committee, on the advice of the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, considers there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
