Forensic Psychology

The understanding of offending behaviour in areas of prevention, assessment and treatment - within the legal system and through criminal investigations.

The Forensic Psychology Group brings together staff whose research focus is on understanding offending behaviour and its effects on victims in areas of prevention, assessment and treatment, and in participation in the legal system and criminal investigations. Topics of interest include adult and youth sexual, violent and family violent crime and psychological processes in eyewitness evidence and criminal investigations with children.

The Group offers New Zealand's only Master’s degree in forensic psychology. They have links to key government and voluntary sector agencies such as Police, Corrections, IHC, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Vulnerable Children, and voluntary organisations that provide interventions for child sexual offending or family violence.
