Auspicious appointment to the International Council for Traditional Music for NZSM Senior Lecturer

For the first time New Zealand is represented on the Executive Board of the International Council for Traditional Music, with the election of Dr Brian Diettrich, Senior Lecturer in Ethnomusicology at NZSM.

Dr Diettrich, who is currently in Bangkok attending the 45th International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) World Conference, was this week elected to this high level international position by the full membership of the council, for a term of six years.

The ICTM is a scholarly organization which aims to further the study, practice, documentation, preservation, and dissemination of traditional music and dance of all countries. The Executive Board manages the ICTM which is a non-governmental organisation with formal links with UNESCO.
