Below is a quick preview of some of our major events coming up in 2018. Details of ticketing and programmes will be announced during the year. We've also got plenty of other events, workshops and presentations throughout the year, sign up here if you'd like to hear about these in our monthly e-newsletter, the Dawn Chorus.

DURUFLÉ REQUIEM
Saturday 26 May
Wellington Cathedral of St Paul

This is a unique performance of Duruflé’s divine Requiem presented in association with Orpheus Choir of Wellington. The full orchestral version will be performed by the NZSM Orchestra under the baton of Kenneth Young, with soloists Jenny Wollerman and James Clayton. Bookings here.

JAZZ PROJECT
Thursday 7 June
Opera House

Guest artists for the Jazz Project in 2018 will be Robben Ford (guitar/vocals), and Lydia Pense (vocals). They'll join our top jazz students in concert as part of the Wellington Jazz Festival.

TROMBONE BLAST
Saturday 4 August

Victoria University of Wellington

As part of our first ever trombone festival, we'll be presenting a huge mass- trombone concert. This is one not to be missed!

BIG BAND & ORCHESTRA
Thursday 9 August
Michael Fowler Centre

American pianist, composer and producer Shelly Berg joins our Big Band and Orchestra for a combined concert of sprawling proportions, and we can't wait.

NZSM MEETS NZSO

A special chamber music concert featuring the Zephyr Quintet and the Te Kōkī Trio in concert. Stay tuned for a date announcement.

OPERA SCENES
14 - 16 September 
Venue tba

Our biennial opera event which sees various scenes from operas and musicals all come together in one delightful concert. We're planning a unique venue too - to be revealed shortly.

WOMEN IN MUSIC
Various dates

2018 marks the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. Following on from our successful XXMT Symposium for Women & Music Technology last year, we'll be holding a few more XXMT events, along with a showcase of women in music later in the year.

AND MORE...

Along with all our annual student competitions, we'll have our yearly Gamelan concert, another China Crossing event in association with the Confucius Institute, a special Māori Pasifika event, orchestra and big band concerts throughout the year, the Friday lunchtime concert series, masterclasses, Music Forum, and plenty more.  

We'll also have some really incredible visiting musicians, and a sonic arts and music technology experimental music festival.
