The album, released by Rattle Records in September, is a CD of small-scale chamber music by Debussy, and includes a violin sonata, cello sonata and piano trio. Violinist Martin Riseley, cellist Inbal Megiddo and pianist Jian Liu are all staff members at the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōkī, and have extensive careers as professional musicians both nationally and internationally.

The CD is one of three finalists for the award, joined by two other Rattle releases - Sway by NZTrio, and Jenny McLeod's 24 Tone Clocks, recorded by Michael Houstoun and Diedre Irons.

The release of Debussy Sonatas and Piano Trio was celebrated with an informal concert at Tuatara's Third Eye bar, with performances of music from the CD. The album, which was recently in the top 10 RNZ Classical Charts, is available on itunes and from the Rattle website here.

The 2017 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards take place on Thursday 16th November.
