NZSM Jazz Project

The NZSM Jazz Project takes place during the Wellington Jazz Festival (5-9 June), and includes a Big Band Competition and Combo Competition for secondary school students, adjudicated by leading musicians and educators including Matt Harris, Lauren Ellis, Mark Donlon, Daniel Hayles, Mike Taylor and Eilish Wilson.

Hear secondary school jazz combos from around New Zealand. This competition runs throughout the day and each band has a 20-minute performance followed by a workshop led by a guest adjudicator.
Thursday 6 June 9am - 2:45pm
Michael Fowler Centre
Hear secondary school big bands from around New Zealand.The Big Band Competition runs throughout the day and each band has a 20-minute performance on stage at the Michael Fowler Centre followed by a workshop led by a guest adjudicator in the Renouf Foyer.

NZSM's Friday Lunchtime Concert for this week is held downtown as part of the Wellington Jazz Festival, and features contemporary original jazz curated by Lauren Ellis and Daniel Hayles.
Enjoy a selection of premiere performances and new arrangements of modern jazz written especially for this concert and line-up, including tunes by two-time Jazz Composition of the Year Tui award winner Callum Allardice. Featuring some of the hottest young players in the Wellington jazz scene, made up of Honours and Masters graduates and current tutors of the New Zealand School of Music Jazz programme: Mike Taylor (trumpet), Eilish Wilson (sax), Callum Allardice (guitar), Daniel Hayles (keys), Chris Beernink (bass) and Lauren Ellis (drums).
