Eliot Lundon Moore will be battling it out with the world’s best student athletes in the swimming pool, while James Preston, a 2018 Blue Award recipient, will be representing New Zealand in athletics. The two are among 46 young athletes travelling to Italy for the games, which are also known as The Summer Universiade.

The Summer Universiade is an important pathway for athletes to other multi-sport major events, including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. This year more than 9,000 athletes from over 128 countries will be competing at Napoli for the 30th biennial event.

Associate Director, Sport and Recreation Karl Whalen is delighted that the University will be represented on the world stage.

“We will be cheering on James and Eliot from Wellington, as they compete in Italy in July. They are stellar ambassadors for the University and we are proud to have them representing us. We look forward to following their progress.”
