Victoria University of Wellington continues to perform strongly in global rankings

Victoria University of Wellington has held its standing in the latest QS World University rankings, in what has been a tough year overall for New Zealand universities.

At an overall rank of 221, Victoria University of Wellington is now the highest ranked of the New Zealand universities that do not have a medical school and remains in the top 2 percent of the world’s 18,000 universities.

Three of New Zealand’s eight universities experienced a significant drop in their rankings, falling between 16 and 24 places.

Of particular note is Victoria University of Wellington’s performance in citations of its research, which improved strongly over the previous year. Citations per faculty account for 20 percent of the overall QS rankings score.

The rankings also show that Victoria University of Wellington continues to appeal to a greater number of international students, reflecting the University’s focus on attracting high quality students and staff from around the world and its success in building international partnerships and connections.

Since 2014, Victoria University of Wellington has moved up 44 places in the QS World University rankings.

“Our global standing amongst the top 2% of the world’s 18,000 universities remains strong thanks to the outstanding quality of our research and teaching and the reputations of our academics,” says Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford.

“This is satisfying result and one that is important for Wellington and for New Zealand.
