Teresia had expressed a wish for Pasifika Studies scholarships to be established. Now her immense legacy will be recognised by the University with the launch on 26 September of the Teresia Teaiwa Memorial Scholarship Fund in honour of Teresia and her contribution to Pasifika studies at Victoria University.

Teresia, whose surname, Teaiwa, can be interpreted as fiery canoe, blazed a course in uncharted waters, showing the way for others to follow. Acting Director Va‘aomanū Pasifika, Dr April Henderson said “her passion, commitment, and the fierce dedication and nurturing she provided changed the lives of all of her students and colleagues.

“Reflecting on my first encounter with Teresia more than 20 years ago, I think about how much she’s shaped my path in the world—first as an awe-inspiring and inspirational scholar and subsequently as a mentor, friend and my closest colleague at Victoria University for 15 years.”

Victoria University and Va’aomanū Pasifika invite you to attend the launch of this important scholarship that will make Teresia's wish a reality and provide opportunities for Pasifika students.
