Your FAV—an experimental edge at Kelburn for the Fringe Festival

Victoria University of Wellington is hosting a theatrical collaboration with the 2016 Fringe Festival at its Kelburn campus, from 24 February to 2 March.

Fringe at Victoria

Called Your FAV (Fringe at Victoria), the collaboration will feature 11 different theatrical events and will coincide with Orientation and New Student Orientation weeks.

Your FAV programme manager Stella Reid says the idea of the programme is to link the wider Wellington arts scene with the university at Kelburn.

“We’re aiming to attract young people up the hill to watch a few performances and try something new that will really engage them. We’ll also saturate students with theatre options during their first week on campus.

“We’re trying to create a pathway for students so they can see theatre companies up here, be inspired and approach them for work.

“This is our first collaboration with the Fringe Festival. Hopefully in time Victoria University will become like Edinburgh University which is regarded as the experimental edge of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.”

Stella Reid studied Theatre at Victoria University and Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School. She has a Master of Theatre Arts in Directing. She managed Long Cloud Youth Theatre in Wellington for several years producing a number of innovative works including Oneironaut, a theatre experience of the subconscious.

Two of the shows in the Your FAV programme will be based in the city, beginning on 9 and 18 February.
