The School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies has prizes and scholarships available for students who show academic excellence.
Applied Linguistics prize
Prize awarded annually to the best student of the year at graduate level in Applied Linguistics.
Award: approx $250 for the purchase of books.
English Speaking Union Award
The funds for these awards are provided by The English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth (Wellington Branch) via the Victoria University Foundation.
Graeme Kennedy Masters Scholarship in Applied Linguistics/Linguistics
This scholarship was introduced in 2018 and will be awarded annually. For more information see the scholarships page.
Ian A. Gordon Prize in Linguistics
The Ian A. Gordon Prize is awarded annually to the best piece of completed research (essay, project or thesis) on any aspect of the nature, structure or use of the English language by an Honours or Masters student in the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies. The prize has been awarded since 2004, but will only be available for a limited period at the discretion of the Ian Gordon Fund Committee.
Janet Holmes prize

Prize awarded annually to the best student of the year completing a BA with a major in Linguistics.
Current value approx $140.
