Centres and institutes

The School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies is home to three centres and institutes dedicated to research in these two areas.

English Language Institute

Offering widely respected English language courses, including the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme, English Language Training for Officials (ELTO), and Workplace Communication for Skilled Migrants (the Skilled Migrant Programme).

Deaf Studies Research Unit

The Deaf Studies Research Unit (DSRU) carries out research on topics relating to Deaf people and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL), and maintains resources that help you to learn and use NZSL.

The Language in the Workplace project

A world-leading research project focused on the study of naturalistic interactions across a wide range of workplaces.

The New Zealand Dictionary Centre

A focal point nationally and internationally for New Zealand lexicography, founded in 1997.
