Professor John Macalister inaugural professorial lecture

Professor John Macalister gave his inaugural professorial lecture on Tuesday 28 August in the Hunter Council Chamber. Entitled Ladies at Home: Language and Culture in Edwardian Wellington, Professor Macalister spoke about behaviours and attitudes of women in Edwardian Wellington, based on an examination of written correspondence from 1905. His exploration is framed within wider discussion of the relationship between English and te reo Maori and speakers of the two languages from 1769 to the present day.
