1. How much file storage space do I have on my H:drive?

All student account holders are allocated a 100MB workspace called an 'H: drive' for file storage. The H: drive allows you to save your work to a secure drive for the duration of your enrolment at VUW. You can copy the contents of your H:drive to a USB on one of the ITS computers.

As part of the student email system there is an additional 25GB of storage available, called the Sky Drive. This system is looked after by Microsoft, so documents stored here are not backed up on our servers.

2. What do I do if I forget my password?

If you can't remember your password, you can change this using our Self-Service password reset site. Enter your student username and an email containing a security code will be sent to the email address that you specified when you enrolled . Enter the security code in the site and you will be able to choose a new password. Alternatively, you can call the ITS Service Desk on (04)463-5050.

3. What happens to my account at the end of the year?

Your student account will remain active until 150 days after the last course that you are enrolled in is complete. All files, email and account credit will be carried over for the duration of your account.

If you do not re-enrol, your account along with your files will be deleted. Please refer to How do I copy my files?

4. How do I forward my email?

Your email access can be forwarded to any other email account. This is done within the email system by choosing OPTIONS and then ORGANIZE EMAIL. Once here, you can create Inbox rules to deal with incoming mail.

5. How do I copy my files?

You should always store your important files on the H: Drive. However, it is advisable to keep a second copy of important files. Some suitable backup options are USB or the Skydrive which comes with your Student Email.

6. I have sent my printing to the printer, but I cannot print. Why is this?

Check how many pages you are sending to print - and that the amount you loaded covers this many pages.  If you do not have enough money on your account to print, your printing will be held (if using FollowMe) on the print server for 8 hours, giving you time to top up your account and release your printing.  Within this time there is no need to resend the printing.

Printing from FollowMe only occurs once you have swiped your Student ID card (if encoded) or entered your Student ID (or username and password) using the keypad.  Once you have successfully activated the printer, your printing will be released.  Printing is held on the print server awaiting release for 8 hours.  You can only print to A4 on the student printers (A3 available only in Rankine Brown), selecting other paper sizes will return an "Out of Paper" error message.

If you have released your printing and it has still not appeared, check for error messages, if there is no toner or paper, your printing will have been released from the server and you will be charged for the printing.  You will need to report the printing error and request a refund (contact ITS Service Desk); and resend your printing.
