Overall, Victoria is in the top 2 percent of the world’s 18,000 universities.

In 17 subject areas, we are among the top 1 percent of the world’s universities (2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject).

We are ranked 38th in the world in Law, 28th in the world in Hospitality & Tourism Management and 40th in the world in Library Management. We are ranked in the top 100 universities in nine other subjects:

QS Stars

In 2016, Victoria joined an elite group of universities from 35 countries that have achieved an amazing result of 5 stars overall and not only that, Victoria also received 5 stars for each category.


Victoria is New Zealand’s top ranked university for research quality (2012 Performance-Based Research Fund). More than 1,416 publications resulting from our researchers’ work were published in 2016.

Triple Crown

Victoria Business School is one of an elite group of commerce faculties worldwide that hold the Triple Crown of international accreditations of EQUIS, AACSB (Business) and AMBA.


We’ve got strong links in both teaching and research with local institutions like:

  • Crown Research Institutes
  • the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa
  • the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Leadership programmes

Victoria offers two extracurricular leadership programmes designed to enhance degree study and employability.

Victoria International Leadership Programme is an award-winning extracurricular programme designed to develop leadership potential, advance international knowledge and intercultural awareness. It’s academically oriented around seminars, speaker events and activities, to inspire students to think creatively about how to address global leadership challenges.

Victoria Plus is the University’s service and leadership development programme. This three-part programme helps develop leadership, social responsibility and employability skills.
