Application deadlines

You can apply to study at Victoria University of Wellington at any time. You should apply as early as possible to make sure you have time to apply for a student visa and accommodation before you travel to New Zealand.

There is an application deadline for each trimester. You need to apply by:

  • Trimester 1 (March): application deadline 1 December
  • Trimester 2 (July): application deadline 1 May
  • Trimester 3 (November) application deadline 1 September.

Applications received after these dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Postgraduate early application deadlines

The following postgraduate programmes have early application deadlines due to their selection process. To be considered for entry into these programmes, you must apply by:

Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology
Application deadline 5 October
Master of Conservation Biology and Master of Marine Conservation
Application deadline 15 October and early start date applies
Master of Arts in Creative Writing
Application deadline 1 November
Master of Science in Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience / Forensic Psychology / Cross-cultural Psychology
Application deadline 1 November
Bachelor of Science with Honours in Psychology
Application deadline 1 November
Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary or Secondary)
Application deadline 15 November and early start date applies

Accommodation deadlines

You should apply for your student accommodation as early as possible. This will give you the best chance of getting a place in your preferred hall.

The University offers many accommodation options for international students and application deadlines apply:

  • Trimester 1: applications open 1 August, due by 15 September
  • Trimester 2: applications open 1 April, due by 1 May
  • Trimester 3: applications open 1 September.

International students are guaranteed a place in a hall when they apply. If you apply after these application deadlines, you are less likely to be offered your first or second choice.
