“At the moment, we are working out the future of the movement with lots of different cards on the table. There will definitely be more strikes! We are also asking ourselves questions such as, Will we do this, would this other thing be more productive, what are our options and what makes the most sense?”

Kapiti Coast student Sophie Handford organised New Zealand’s involvement in the School Strike 4 Climate movement after hearing about Swedish 16 year old Greta Thunberg’s climate activism on the news. After the success of the first strike day, she presents her thoughts on the future of the movement, the steps the New Zealand government needs to take to address the climate crisis, and the future of the planet.
