It is over 40 years since social statisticians identified children and their parents as the biggest group of the poor. In that time there have been numerous statistical investigations, too many to cover in one session. Instead, Brian Easton will highlight some of those in which he was involved and recount some of the humorous and tragic political and policy stories which go with them. He hopes to have time to discuss ongoing developments.  (The technical level of the presentation will be kept simple).

Brian Easton is an independent scholar, widely known for his economics column that appeared in the New Zealand Listener magazine for 37 years, from 1977 to 2014. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the New Zealand Economic Association and in 2009 he won the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) Economics Award. Brian is also a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a Chartered Statistician.
