His research covers stated preferences surveys to find out what matters most to people, developing and applying well-being frameworks to address policy problems, and the measurement of well-being in New Zealand.

Background

Joey is Principal Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), a Committee Member of the NZ Government Economics Network (GEN) and on the New Zealand Association of Economist (NZAE) Council. He has previously worked at the NZ Treasury as Senior Advisor to the Chief Economist and at the OECD as an Economist.

His paper with Andrew Coleman and Trudy Sullivan, A practical approach to well-being based policy development: What do New Zealanders want from their retirement income policies, won the Treasury Award for most outstanding Working Paper and the NZAE NZ Economic Policy Prize awarded to the paper deemed to make the best contribution to analysis of economic policy in or applied to New Zealand.
